SPEED QUEEN CLUB IN LEEDS, NORTH ENGLAND

Speed Queen was an inclusive and LGBT+ friendly club nights which was popular in the 1990s and 2000s. It was an underground club scene with great music, fashion and art, with the objective in tackling intolerance and sexism.

Striving for an inclusive society aims to transform both the quality and available opportunities for everyone – where everybody is equal and supported to access the means to make decisions and be able to participate in society regardless of their race, religion, gender, sexuality, age, and disability.

In 2006, Nicola Gastaldelli was given the opportunity to cover the story of Speed Queen. It was forbidden to take pictures then, but Nicola was handed the exclusivity. Nicola is a keen-eyed and experienced free-lance photographer committed to deliver the best results and capture the most beautiful moments.

Nicola mingled with the crowd to understand the concept and grasp the cross-cultural competence. The clubbers came from different background and walk of life. Being able to communicate and developing a relationship is a big success to him. The pictures speak for itself.
